Mauritian Real Estate Market After The Pandemic!

With a very low contamination rate of Covid-19 and an almost zero morbidity rate, Mauritius is still one of the attractive countries in terms of real estate investment.

Despite the various restrictive measures implemented by the Mauritian Government (Confinements, closure of airspace …), European and South African investors have taken advantage of the favorable investment conditions put in place by the Government, which includes the Economic Development Board (EDB).

PDS Scheme

Indeed, the acquisition of a property under the Property Development Scheme now allows the granting of a Residence Permit if it is sold for a price equal to or greater than $375,000 USD.

Premium Visa

On the other hand, some investors have taken advantage of the new “Premium Visa” which is a one-year renewable residence permit. This permit is granted to foreign nationals (women and children*) and has been implemented since November 16, 2020.

In order to obtain this permit, you must not carry out any professional activity on the Mauritian market, which will not allow you, like some consultants, to work from your home for possible clients physically located outside the national territory.

In this case, your income will have to come exclusively from a foreign source: pension, dividends, telecommuting, …

You will have to produce a reservation of lodging in rent or a title of acquisition.

You will also be asked to produce a valid passport, a passport photo and a copy of your return air ticket.

* Until their 23rd birthday.
